On 20 April 2026, GIZ and the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) jointly hosted a Business and Partnership Workshop with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the theme “Building Sustainable Partnership with the German–Indonesian Business Community.” The event took place at 25hours Hotel The Oddbird in Jakarta’s SCBD district and brought together German and Indonesian companies.

Strategic Dialogue on Sustainable Partnerships

The workshop opened with a fireside chat that set the tone for a comprehensive discussion on strengthening sustainable partnerships between German and Indonesian businesses. The session featured prominent speakers, including H.E. Mr. Ralf Beste, German Ambassador to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, and ASEAN; Dr. Monika Erath, Executive Director of EKONID; and Mr. Hans-Ludwig Bruns, Country Director of GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN.

The discussion highlighted the role of Team Germany in fostering collaboration with Indonesia’s private sector, emphasizing how coordinated support, policy alignment, and practical cooperation can enable businesses to create tangible and measurable impact. The speakers underscored the importance of long-term partnerships that combine economic competitiveness with sustainability goals.

Interactive Workshops: From Dialogue to Action

Following the opening session, participants engaged in interactive parallel workshops designed to encourage exchange, collaboration, and the co-creation of practical solutions. The workshops focused on four key thematic areas:

  • Energy Transition
    This session focused on how companies can enhance competitiveness and operational resilience by reducing energy costs through clean energy solutions, energy efficiency, and industrial decarbonisation, while preparing for future-ready power systems.
  • Sustainable Natural Resource Management
    Discussions cantered on transforming environmental challenges into business opportunities across food systems, agriculture, and natural resource-based industries.
  • Urban Development
    This session explored how private sector innovation can contribute to addressing urban challenges while simultaneously creating commercial value.
  • General Collaboration
    Focusing on how partnerships can strengthen talent pipelines, close skills gaps, and support business growth through practical training and upskilling models.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening Cooperation

The event concluded with an internal plenary session between GIZ and EKONID, reflecting on key challenges, emerging opportunities, and next steps. The discussion also seeing on leveraging GIZ programmes and EKONID’s extensive private sector network to respond to business needs and develop concrete partnership opportunities with relevant stakeholders.

The dialogue marked an important step toward identifying actionable follow-up initiatives and deepening German–Indonesian collaboration in the future.
