With the support of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN), the German-Indonesian Chamber of Industry and Commerce (EKONID) is facilitating the EV Battery Recycling Pilot Project Indonesia for the period 2025–2027. The project aims to support the development of EV battery recycling infrastructure in Indonesia while strengthening collaboration between German, European, and Indonesian stakeholders in the growing electric vehicle ecosystem.

This two-year pilot project seeks to establish Indonesia’s first demonstration facility for recycling lithium-ion batteries from electric scooters by utilizing safe diagnostic and dismantling technologies from Germany. By addressing the increasing volume of end-of-life e-scooter batteries and the current gap in recycling infrastructure, the project promotes circular economy principles, environmental protection, and sustainable resource management. It is also designed as a scalable model for future EV battery recycling implementation in Indonesia.

To introduce the initiative and explore collaboration opportunities, EKONID is organizing an online introduction session that will bring together German and European technology providers and Indonesian industry stakeholders active in the EV battery recycling sector. The session will provide an overview of the EV Battery Refurbishment and Recycling Pilot Project currently being implemented in Indonesia and highlight potential technology cooperation and market opportunities within Indonesia’s emerging EV battery recycling ecosystem.

Key Agenda Topics

1. Current EV Market Development in Indonesia and Insights from German Expertise

This session will provide an overview of the electric vehicle (EV) market in Indonesia, including key trends, policy developments, and regulatory initiatives supporting EV adoption. The discussion will highlight ongoing and planned developments such as EV infrastructure expansion, industry investment, and market growth, alongside insights from German expertise in EV technology and battery lifecycle management.

2. Introduction to the EV Battery Recycling Pilot Project (2025–2027)

The pilot project introduces Indonesia’s first structured system for EV battery intake, discharge, diagnostics, dismantling, and early material separation. The initiative is technically developed by Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) and operated at PT Mukti Mandiri Lestari (MML). Supported by TÜV Nord, the project also includes a technical training program designed to build local expertise and strengthen Indonesia’s capabilities in safe EV battery recycling and refurbishment processes.

3. Technology Market Outlook and Partnership Opportunities

The session will highlight market entry opportunities for German and European technology providers within Indonesia’s EV battery recycling value chain. Topics include technologies for safe dismantling, battery diagnostics, black mass generation, and future industrial-scale recycling solutions. The discussion will also explore potential partnerships between international technology providers and Indonesian industry stakeholders involved in the EV sector.

Supporting Indonesia’s Emerging EV Battery Recycling Ecosystem

Indonesia’s electric vehicle industry is expanding rapidly, and the country is expected to experience significant volumes of end-of-life lithium-ion batteries from 2026 onwards. The EV Battery Recycling Pilot Project aims to contribute to the development of a sustainable battery lifecycle ecosystem in Indonesia while creating opportunities for technology transfer, industry collaboration, and investment.

Participation in this session offers valuable insights for companies involved in EV technology, battery recycling solutions, and circular economy initiatives, as well as organizations seeking to engage with Indonesia’s growing EV market.
